As video games have grown in popularity, so have their budgets, which now rival those of major Hollywood productions. Both, marketing and production budgets can make games cost over a quarter billion dollars. We are going to focus simply on the development costs associated with these games. 1. Watch Dogs- USD 68 Million

It is an open world game which was designed to allow the players to discover a fictionalized version of Chicago and it has a minor similarity to the ‘Grand Theft Auto’ series.

2. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots- USD 70 Million

Its fourth ‘Metal Gear Solid’ edition features an aged version of Solid Snake, the main character in the series. It was made in 2008, Its release was set in 2014, which was technically the future at the time. ‘Guns of the Patriots’ is a direct sequel to the hit game.

3. Defiance- USD 80 Million

It is known as a Mass Multiplayer Online game or MMO. It was developed in collaboration with a TV show of the same name that debuted on the SyFy Channel in 2013. It takes you on a journey of fighting off the alien race, destroying humanity after the Pale Wars in the San Francisco area.

4. Red Dead Redemption- USD 90 Million

Rockstar Games came out with three ‘Grand Theft Auto’ games for the PlayStation 2 with ‘GTA 3, ‘Vice City’ and ‘San Andreas’. These three were among the highly praised games of all time. With a convincing storyline, unbelievable graphics at the time and replay value through the roof, Grand Theft Auto IV got the people smitten with.

7. Max Payne 3- USD 105 Million

Rockstar Games makes another appearance with the third game in the ‘Max Payne’ series. ‘Max Payne 3’ was released in 2012, nine years after the second game.

8. Grand Theft Auto V- USD 137 Million

Initially it was released in 2013, Grand Theft Auto V was revised for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in 2014 with improved graphics and extra bits and pieces in the game play. This game was a massive hit, in the first 24 hours alone, making USD 800 million.

9. Destiny- USD 140 Million

Destiny was released in 2014. Although the reviews were not as ideal as expected, But still made well over USD 500 million.

10. Star Wars: The Old Republic- USD 200 Million

The ‘Star Wars’ creation is extremely expansive and ‘The Old Republic’ takes place after a time of peace between the Sith Empire and the Republic. After three days, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was released, about one million people subscribed it. But after a year, subscribers were reduced a lot.
